Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has mandated that the new minimum wage be paid starting in October 2024.
According to a state government statement, the governor approved the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage announced by the federal government over the weekend.
The announcement, signed by Hauwa Nuru, the state Commissioner for Finance, stated that the agreed minimum wage will be implemented across the state’s public sector beginning in October 2024.
According to the statement:
“This decision, which includes consequential adjustments to the relevant salary structures, was made after a successful tripartite meeting between government representatives, the leadership of the Organised Labour in Kwara State — Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) — and representatives from the organised private sector.”
Nuru, who co-chaired the minimum wage committee, thanked Governor Abdulrazaq for providing the group complete liberty in reaching a settlement that benefited all parties involved.
She announced:
“The immediate implementation of this new wage underscores Governor AbdulRazaq’s proactive and worker-friendly approach.”
Nuru pointed out that Governor Abdulrazaq “remains committed to the welfare of public servants and all citizens of Kwara State, as part of the broader vision for sustainable development and economic stability.”
“The template also covers workers in the 16 local government areas of the state.”
