Kebbi State Government has established an eight-man committee to probe the violent protest on October 17 at the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Jega, Jega Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, made the announcement immediately after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
He said:
“Following the October 17 violent protest that resulted in the setting ablaze the residence of the Provost of the college, Alhaji Haruna Saidu-Sauwa, and the subsequent directive to shut down the college, an eight-man committee has been set up to investigate the incident.”
Ahmed-BK declared that Alhaji Ibrahim Musa-Tungulawa, the Commissioner for Environment, would head the committee, with Safiyanu Garba-Bena serving as secretary.
According to him, the committee’s terms of reference include investigating the reasons of the incident, quantifying the magnitude of the damage, and recommending strategies to prevent future occurrences, among others.
The commissioner went on to say that the purpose of forming the committee was to ensure justice for all parties concerned, free of favouritism, nepotism, and emotional bias.
