Imo State House of Assembly has urged the state government to deploy security officers in all elementary and secondary schools throughout the state to avoid facility vandalism.

The House of Assembly made the request in response to a proposal by Clinton Amadi, the member representing Owerri Municipal Council.

He informed the House of Assembly that the actions of local lads had prompted several instructors and pupils to cease attending school in order to avoid being harassed by miscreants who were usually present on the premises.

Amadi stated that the area boys are undermining the government’s attempts to give decent education to its population.

He said:

“The activities of these criminals and vandals who invade the school premises during and after school period has turned our school premises to dangerous zones and made the environment deplorable.

“These criminals defecate around the school premises, smoking indian hemp and other drugs, turning the class rooms, teachers and headmasters office to chalets at night, littering the premises with all forms of illegal items like used condoms remaining pieces of weed and others.”

The House of Assembly man further stated that the local boys endanger the lives of instructors and pupils who attempt to oppose them.
