Residents defy fear of insecurity throng to voting centres in Kano

Even though police and other security forces did not participate in Kano’s local government elections on Saturday, hundreds of people turned out for voting.

Our election monitor indicates that in several polling units, elections were completed as early as 10 a.m., shortly after election materials were received.

Voting was occurred smoothly in Tudunwada, Rimin Gado, Gwale, Municipal, Bichi, and other locations, with voters arriving early to cast their ballots.

However, despite the fact that the election began on schedule at the Tarauni PHC voting station, which has three polling units, there was a poor voter participation overall.

However, in the Gandun Albasa Special Primary School, which has 21 polling units, numerous people were observed in line waiting their time to vote.

A cross-section of voters who spoke about the election were pleased with its calm conduct in contrast to expectations.

One of the voters said:

“Many people anticipated a crisis during the election but thank God it’s peaceful.”

Another voter commented on the election, saying he was glad it was fairly quiet because many locals followed the instruction to limit movement.

Also speaking, Tajuddeen Uba, presiding officer of Polling Unit 002 at Gandun Albasa, stated that voting began just after 8:00 a.m. and that the election was calm since people showed out and voted peacefully and methodically.
