Nollywood actress Ekene Umenwa recently dedicated her newborn child to Mother Mary, reflecting her deep devotion to her faith.
Earlier in September, Ekene announced the birth of her first child in the U.S., attributing her journey to the support of Jesus and Mother Mary. She thanked her Creator and extended prayers to expectant mothers.
After returning to Nigeria, Ekene revealed she prioritized taking her baby to Mother Mary before bringing her home. “The flight shifting could not stop me from taking my baby to Mama before she entered her father’s house,” she explained. Ekene expressed her gratitude to her family, Rev Fathers, and particularly her father, @stevemarioisioma, for their support during this special time.
Ekene’s dedication to Mother Mary comes as no surprise. During her pregnancy, she honored her faith by channeling the image of the Virgin Mary in her maternity shoot. She described her pregnancy as a journey filled with blessings and felt the continuous presence of Mother Mary throughout.
However, the actress’s public dedication sparked mixed reactions online. While fans expressed support, some questioned the religious significance. Comments like, “Is this not idol worshipping?” and “Only Jesus should be worshipped” were shared by fans, sparking discussions about faith practices.
Beyond her role as a mother, Ekene’s faith has also guided her other life decisions. After her wedding, she shared how she prayed and fasted for nine days to let Jesus guide her in choosing a chief bridesmaid. Ultimately, she was led to select her colleague, Chinenye Nnebe, who she described as the perfect choice.
Ekene previously made headlines on her wedding day when a video surfaced of her pausing to kneel before gospel singer Moses Bliss. Despite online criticism, Ekene stood by her actions, thanking Bliss for being a memorable part of her wedding day.
