Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie recently shared heartfelt advice for women in abusive marriages, sparked by a video that exposed the emotional abuse of a young woman.
The woman in the video spoke about her husband’s harsh treatment, which began after her body changed due to childbirth. Touched by the woman’s plight, Edochie expressed her pain at seeing women endure such suffering and urged women to “walk away without looking back” when facing a toxic marriage.
In an Instagram post, Edochie denounced men who belittle their partners over body changes brought on by pregnancy and motherhood. She firmly stated that these men are “irresponsible,” emphasizing that no one deserves to be shamed for their body. She encouraged women not to feel trapped, as staying in a toxic relationship only leads to greater harm.
Her message came days after another emotional moment in the public eye, where May Edochie moved audiences to tears while speaking about her son’s passing. Edochie praised May’s strength, calling her a “pillar of resilience” and highlighting how women can overcome hardships.
Edochie’s post read: “If you are tired already with two kids, why stay? A toxic marriage is modern slavery. I was nearly in tears watching this video, but I realized it’s high time women stood up for themselves. Women, don’t look back when it comes to walking away from every abusive relationship. If you choose to stay and perish with a monster, then my own is to say R.I.P. because you refuse to hear simple advice.”
The post received widespread support, with many followers agreeing with her stance and echoing the need for more open conversations around emotional abuse and self-worth.
