Don Jazzy Advocates for DNA Testing Over Naming Ceremonies

Music executive Don Jazzy has sparked a conversation on the importance of DNA testing, declaring that it holds more significance than a naming ceremony.

In a post shared on his Instagram story, the Mavin Records boss emphasized the importance of ensuring biological paternity, stating,

DNA test is more important than naming ceremony.”

Don Jazzy’s stance has been met with widespread support from his followers, with many agreeing with his sentiment. Notable reactions in the comment section include messages of support from Ms Benny, Isio Joseph, and Real Joyces, all affirming the relevance of DNA testing in today’s world.

Don Jazzy’s viewpoint adds to a growing debate around the importance of DNA testing. Earlier in May, media personality Do2dtun also advocated for immediate DNA tests on children right after birth, arguing that knowing the truth about paternity early on can prevent future complications. He noted that although many people see DNA testing as a trust issue, it is ultimately better to be certain from the start.

In contrast, actor Rotimi Salami took a more extreme stance, calling for paternity fraud to be criminalized. He likened the pain of a man discovering that the child he has been raising is not his own to the trauma experienced by a woman who has been raped. His comparison emphasizes the emotional toll such revelations can take on individuals.

However, not all celebrities agree with the growing call for DNA testing. Veteran actor Ugezu J Ugezu has voiced his opposition to the trend, arguing that it threatens the unity of African families. He criticized men who routinely request paternity tests, claiming it tears homes apart and hurts children who might grow up feeling rejected or unloved. He firmly believes that a child born to an African man is, by default, that man’s child, regardless of biological ties.
