Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has openly apologized to his elder brother, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, ending a longstanding family rift.
This comes shortly after the death of their mother, which brought the brothers together. Videos shared online showed the siblings reconnecting at Kunle’s film village in Komu, Oyo State, as they sat with friends and tagged each other on social media.
At their mother’s wake keep, Aremu publicly apologized for his actions over the years. He admitted to causing Kunle Instagram backlash and expressed regret for not speaking to him for over 40 years. Aremu also acknowledged Kunle’s financial contributions to their family, noting that despite not helping to build their family home, Kunle completed it without holding a grudge.
Kunle, in response, shared that he considers himself not just Aremu’s brother but also a father figure, as he raised him for a decade. He attributed their fallout to external influences, particularly women, who he said drove a wedge between them.
The reunion has sparked excitement among fans and colleagues, many of whom took to social media to celebrate the mended relationship.
The Afolayan brothers’ rift, which reportedly stemmed from Aremu’s criticism of the family and their late father, had been a sore point for years. However, their mother’s passing seems to have offered an opportunity for reconciliation and healing.
The Afolayan family is currently mourning the loss of their matriarch, who passed away a few days ago. Kunle Afolayan shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, describing her death as a difficult reality but finding solace in her good life. He also sought prayers for his family during this trying time.
Tributes have poured in from Nollywood stars, including Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Femi Adebayo, Anthar Laniyan, and Dele Odule, who have joined the Afolayan family in honoring Mrs. Afolayan’s memory.
