Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo Kanayo, issued a tongue-in-cheek warning to actress Toyin Abraham during his speech at the recently concluded Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The prestigious event, held at the Sugar Factory Film Studios, saw Kanayo honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Governor of Kwara State.
During his acceptance speech, Kanayo lightheartedly teased Toyin Abraham, referencing his iconic “money ritual” movie roles:
“Toyin Abraham, this is just some minute to 12. If you talk to me at 1 am, I’ll take you to the coven, and you will disappear.”
His humorous comment drew laughter from the audience, adding an entertaining touch to the otherwise formal occasion.
Kanayo also used the moment to highlight a serious issue within the Nollywood community. Dedicating his award to colleagues battling drug-related health issues, he urged state governments to come together to provide support for those in need:
“I dedicate these awards to some of her colleagues who have been caught on drugs and are in the hospital. At 62 years, I am doing well in Nollywood.”
Kanayo’s humorous take on his “ritualist” movie persona has become a staple in his interactions with fans and colleagues. Recently, he set a mock appointment with singer Portable, who jokingly expressed interest in inheriting Kanayo’s “ritual crowns.”
Despite his on-screen reputation, Kanayo has repeatedly emphasized his faith and values, stating:
- He has never engaged in any form of sacrifice, declaring his devotion to Jesus Christ.
- His roles are strictly professional, driven by the talent God has given him.
- Even when performing intense scenes, such as entering coffins, he does not engage in spiritual rituals or sanctification, trusting in his abilities and divine protection.
Kanayo Kanayo remains one of Nollywood’s most respected actors, known for his stellar performances in roles that often explore themes of wealth and power.
