Social media users have expressed outrage following the arrest of a police officer filmed in a viral video with billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya‘s sons.

The video, shared by Raheem Okoya, a musician, showed the officer carrying bundles of cash as Raheem and his brother Wahab danced and sprayed the money in the air to promote Raheem’s new song, Credit Alert.

In the video, which quickly garnered widespread attention, the policeman was seen assisting Raheem by carrying bundles of N1000 notes. The clip sparked debate about the ethical implications of the officer’s actions and the public conduct of the Okoya brothers.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) addressed the situation in a statement via their official X (formerly Twitter) account. They revealed that the officer had been identified and detained for disciplinary action, describing his involvement as unethical.

“The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police.”

The NPF’s decision to detain the officer while seemingly exonerating the Okoya brothers has ignited widespread criticism. Many social media users questioned why the sons of the billionaire, who allegedly abused the naira, were not subjected to similar punitive measures.

  • @Ye_am_chichi: “Why not arrest the ones that gave the officer the money?”
  • @Olamide_15: “They should release the poor man and take legal actions against Naira abuse.”
  • @Ego Umez: “And the billionaire sons you claim abused the Naira? What will happen? Meanwhile, I can’t see any abuse of the Naira here.”
  • @Oba K Solo: “As usual the poor people are the ones that face the law. Na suffer go finish poor man.”

The incident has reignited discussions on wealth privilege and the perceived double standards in the enforcement of laws in Nigeria. Many critics argue that the punishment meted out to the officer reflects systemic inequities, where the affluent often evade accountability while less privileged individuals bear the brunt of the law.
