The National Assembly has stepped down the 2025 budget proposal for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, citing inadequate funding.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, Senator Kenneth Eze, made the announcement in a viral video shared on X during the ministry’s budget defence on Tuesday.
Senator Eze criticized the proposed budget, calling it a national embarrassment. “The budget is nothing to write home about. It is more like a national embarrassment to allocate such an amount to a ministry as critical as Information,” he stated.
The committee has summoned the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, to appear for further discussions on the budget.
Supporting the decision, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed concerns over the inadequacy of the proposed allocation. “I second the stepping down of the 2025 budget for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation because the funding as presented is inadequate. We have summoned the Minister for further review,” she said.
The Senate recently suspended its plenary for two weeks to deliberate on the proposed N49.7 trillion national budget for 2025.
