Fast-rising music star Spyro has stirred social media with a subtle dig at music executive Ubi Franklin. The feud began with accusations of unpaid dues and escalated into a public exchange of words.
Spyro used the opportunity to reflect on his success while encouraging others to remain steadfast in their faith and hard work.
In a recent interview on Echo Room, Spyro accused Ubi Franklin of owing him $5,000 for a performance in Ghana. Ubi, however, refuted the claim, alleging that Spyro owed him a 10 percent commission from a car purchase deal he facilitated.
Responding to Ubi, Spyro took to Instagram to share his blessings and shade Ubi subtly. He wrote:
“Franklin speaking. Sorry, I mean, frankly speaking, God has been faithful without taking no 10 percent on his faithfulness.”
Spyro also encouraged young artists to trust in God, emphasizing that success doesn’t require illegal means and comes with peace of mind.
Spyro’s remarks extended beyond Ubi Franklin, as he also criticized his experience under Paulo Okoye’s record label. The singer claimed he had to take out loans to survive during his time with the label.
Paulo Okoye countered these allegations by sharing receipts of over ₦12 million spent on Spyro during his time with the label, asserting that he gained no financial returns from the artist. Despite the rebuttal, Spyro acknowledged Paulo’s support, thanking him for giving him a platform, though he maintained his initial claims.
Even Paulo’s daughter, Vanessa, weighed in, accusing Spyro of being ungrateful. She criticized him for granting unnecessary interviews and prayed for divine forgiveness on his behalf.
Despite the controversies, Spyro’s story is one of perseverance and faith. He began 2023 with less than ₦10,000 in his account but has since achieved financial success, including acquiring cars and multiple houses for himself and his family.
Celebrating his mother’s birthday, Spyro revealed that her struggles inspired him to work harder. He also reiterated his advice to upcoming artists, urging them to prioritize diligence and self-investment over relying solely on record labels.
