Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has dismissed reports of any conflict between him and his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, insisting that their relationship remains cordial.
Speaking on a TVC news program on Monday, Sani refuted claims of a fallout, maintaining that there was no friction between them despite recent controversies.
According to Governor Uba Sani:
“I can tell you there’s no problem between me and my predecessor. Our relationship is very cordial, and there’s nothing wrong with our relationship. What is more important here is moving our state forward.
“I don’t know why you’re also talking about the State Assembly. The State Assembly is also an independent arm of the government. So there’s nothing. Kaduna State is more important than me and my predecessor,” the governor said.
The alleged rift gained attention following a report by the Kaduna State Assembly in June 2024, which accused El-Rufai and some of his former appointees of mismanaging N423 billion in state funds.
The report suggested large-scale financial irregularities during El-Rufai’s tenure, prompting widespread debate.
In response, El-Rufai, through his media aide Muyiwa Adekeye, dismissed the allegations, labeling them as false and scandalous. He insisted that the claims were politically motivated and lacked factual basis.
The probe into El-Rufai’s administration was initiated weeks after Governor Sani expressed concerns over the massive debt inherited from his predecessor.
He had lamented that the financial burden left behind was impacting the state’s ability to execute key development projects.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed that he holds no grudges against El-Rufai, emphasizing their continued mutual respect and collaboration for the progress of Kaduna State.
