Nollywood star and box office queen Funke Akindele has shown her support for colleague Iyabo Ojo’s latest project, Labake Olodo. The movie, set to hit cinemas on March 28, has been teased by Iyabo for days, building excitement among fans.
Taking to Instagram, Funke shared the trailer of the movie, expressing her enthusiasm and congratulating Iyabo.
I’m loving this trailer!!! I can’t wait to watch the movie!! Congratulations @iyaboojofespris. Labake Olodo hits the cinemas 28th of March!!! We can’t wait!!!!!”
Iyabo, touched by the gesture, responded in the comments section with appreciation:
“Thanks lefty.”
This display of support further highlights the strengthening bond between Funke Akindele and Iyabo Ojo. The two actresses, once at odds, have rekindled their friendship in recent years.
In December, both stars attended skitmaker Kamo State’s wedding, where they stole the spotlight by serving major friendship goals. Videos from the event showed Iyabo warmly greeting Funke as she arrived and the pair dancing, chatting, and enjoying the celebration together.
In August of last year, Iyabo penned a heartfelt birthday tribute to Funke, praising her resilience and achievements. She acknowledged Funke’s ability to thrive through life’s challenges and celebrated her wins.
The duo’s relationship wasn’t always this harmonious. They were once at loggerheads after Iyabo publicly called out Funke when a blogger criticized Toyin Abraham’s movie The Ghost and The Tout. However, their relationship took a positive turn at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2022, where they embraced and exchanged pecks, signaling an end to their feud.
Funke, on her 45th birthday that year, received love and prayers from Iyabo. Later that year, Funke also celebrated Iyabo on her birthday, attending her party and sharing affectionate moments.
In an interview, Funke reflected on how Iyabo and fellow actress Sikiratu Sindodo supported her early in her career. Recalling a moment when she faced stereotyping over her appearance, Funke shared how Iyabo and Sikiratu stood up for her, encouraging her to push through challenges.
