Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy has issued a wake-up call to artists, urging them to focus on real-world achievements rather than being misled by social media trends and accolades.

In a recent Instagram story, Burna Boy emphasized the importance of aiming higher and prioritizing tangible goals in their music careers. He warned artists not to be swayed by Twitter polls or the praise of Nigerian social media fans, as these do not translate into real-world success, such as selling out stadiums globally.

Burna also pointed out that having a song ranked number one on Nigerian streaming platforms is not a significant milestone. Instead, he encouraged artists to set their sights higher and consider diversifying their income streams with side businesses. His message read:

“Dear artists,
Don’t let Twitter polls and Naija social media fans deceive you. They won’t fill up any stadium for you in any part of the world.
Your song being Number 1 on any streaming platform in Nigeria is not something to celebrate. Aim higher or do other businesses on the side. I type with love. No Sign Of Weakness.”

Spyro, another music sensation, shared similar sentiments with upcoming artists. He stressed that success isn’t guaranteed by signing with a major label or artist. Instead, he explained that diligence, hard work, and a positive mindset are crucial. Without these attributes, even the best record label cannot save an artist from failure.

MAVINS founder Don Jazzy also chimed in with advice for budding artists. He revealed that he personally discovered and reached out to talents like Ayra Starr, Boy Spyce, and Bayanni through their social media activity. Don Jazzy encouraged artists to showcase their skills online, highlighting how visibility can open doors to opportunities.

Singer Buju added his perspective, reminding artists that being signed to a record label isn’t the only pathway to success. He shared examples of artists thriving independently, emphasizing the value of leveraging talent and creating sustainable income streams outside of traditional record deals.
