Nigerian singer Portable has openly pleaded with Grammy award-winning artist Burna Boy to collaborate with him, claiming a verse from the singer could change his life.
Despite receiving a generous N20 million gift from Burna Boy following his victory over Speed Darlington in a celebrity boxing match in Lagos, Portable expressed disappointment at Burna’s refusal to respond to his messages or take his calls.
In a heartfelt video shared online, Portable stated that while he appreciated the monetary gift, he preferred a musical collaboration over cash. He lamented that the money would eventually be spent, but a feature from Burna Boy would have a lasting impact on his career.
Burna Boy gave me N20 million, but he won’t reply to my DMs, pick up my calls, or even link me. I don’t even have his number. The N20 million will finish — what I really need is a verse. Why are you so stingy with your replies?” Portable lamented.
The singer’s plea highlights a complicated relationship between the two. In 2022, Portable accused Burna Boy of stealing his style and mannerisms, claiming the Grammy-winning artist was using his persona for promotion without acknowledgment. Despite the past accusations, Portable has repeatedly praised Burna Boy’s generosity, even hailing him earlier this year for assisting Cubana Chief Priest’s family.
Portable also acknowledged Burna Boy’s influence in the music industry, calling him a legend and a member of the “big league.” Still, the street singer remains adamant that a collaboration with Burna Boy would open new doors for his career, urging the artist to give him a chance to meet and work together.
“Who go help you no go stress you,” Portable wrote on Instagram.
