The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to establish a new Area Command at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ) in Lagos. This development follows a recent visit to the facility by the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who expressed satisfaction with the level of investment on the island.

During his visit, Adeniyi announced that the Service is finalising documentation to set up a dedicated command at the Free Zone.

He emphasised that this move will enhance customs operations and strengthen regulatory presence in the area. Adeniyi assured stakeholders that the establishment of the new command is imminent, stating that by his next visit, a Customs Area Controller would be in place to oversee operations.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration between the NCS and private sector operators, Adeniyi noted that such synergy is crucial for driving national economic goals.

He expressed optimism about a mutually beneficial relationship that would serve the interests of the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Government, and Nigerdock, the corporate entity operating within the SIIFZ.

In response, the Managing Director of SIIFZ, Semiu Akorede, expressed appreciation for the NCS’s support. He underscored the significance of the Comptroller General’s visit, noting that it would add substantial value to the zone’s operations.

Akorede also acknowledged the positive impact of the Customs officers currently working with them and those involved in various operations within the zone.

The establishment of the new customs command at Snake Island is expected to bolster regulatory oversight, facilitate trade, and contribute to the economic development of the region.
