Nollywood actor Femi Adebayo Salami was visibly emotional after winning the Best Lead Actor award at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) held on Saturday, May 10th.
The talented actor and filmmaker, who has been making waves in the industry, was overwhelmed with gratitude as he received the prestigious award. Femi broke down in tears on stage and was comforted by his colleague, Odunlade Adekola. Reflecting on the moment, he shared on his Instagram page that the real reason for his emotional breakdown was deeply personal and known only to him and Allah. He expressed sincere gratitude for the recognition, calling it a truly deserved moment. He wrote, “A truly deserved award, and I’m deeply grateful for this moment with every fibre of my being. The real reason for my breakdown is known only to me and Allah. Big thank you to everyone who contributed to this unforgettable moment.”
Femi Adebayo has had an incredible journey in Nollywood, especially following the success of his Netflix debut, Jagun Jagun. The film shattered records with 2.1 million views and ranked 5th in the Non-English category on Netflix, marking a significant milestone in his career. Since then, his rise has been meteoric, with Jagun Jagun receiving seven nominations at the 2024 AMAA and winning multiple awards, including Best Actor, Best Use of Costume, Best Art Design, and Best Use of Effect at the Best of Nollywood awards in November 2023.
