Terrorists in North-East now using armed drones — Army Gen. Abubakar

The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General AE Abubakar, has revealed that terrorists in Nigeria’s North-East are now using armed drones for attacks.

This development was disclosed during a recent press briefing, where General Abubakar explained that the use of drones, similar to those used in conflict zones like Ukraine and Israel, began in November of last year.

The commander highlighted the challenge posed by these drones, noting that they are difficult to detect with conventional radar systems, making them a significant threat to military defences.

He linked the increased use of sophisticated weapons to regional instability in the Sahel, where looted military equipment has made its way into Nigeria due to porous borders.

In response to this evolving threat, the military has implemented strategic changes, including reviewing troop deployments and enhancing surveillance.

General Abubakar reported that recent attacks in Rann, Gajiram, and Dikwa were largely repelled, though the attack in Rann resulted in the loss of four soldiers.

Despite the challenges, the commander expressed confidence in the military’s ability to defeat terrorism and called for continued national support.

Abubakar urged Nigerians to assist the military by providing intelligence and helping to identify criminals in their communities.
