Nollywood actress Uche Jombo has proudly delivered Chioma Akpotha’s AMVCA Best Actress trophy, putting to rest the backlash she faced for not receiving it on her colleague’s behalf at the award ceremony.
Last month, Chioma Akpotha won the prestigious Best Actress award at the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). While Chioma was in the United States during the ceremony, Uche Jombo, present at the event, chose not to go on stage to collect the award, a decision that drew criticism from fans.
To set things right, Uche shared a video on Instagram of the heartfelt moment she personally handed over the trophy to Chioma in the US, revealing she flew first class for the occasion.
In the emotional clip, Chioma delivered a moving acceptance speech, thanking AMVCA organizers, her fans, God, and her late mother. She reflected on her journey, acknowledging the highs and lows she has faced while staying committed to her craft.
This award means everything to me,” Chioma said. “Thank you, Jesus, thank you, my mama in heaven, thank you, AMVCA, and thank you to my fans. This is for everyone who has stood by me through thick and thin.”
Chioma’s AMVCA win was a highlight of the 2025 awards, where she triumphed over nominees like Bimbo Ademoye and Hilda Dokubo. Her victory was celebrated with a surprise party thrown by her friends and family. Chioma expressed her gratitude, noting that being loved and celebrated is “great medicine for the heart.”
The film that earned her the award also carries a story of divine intervention. Femi Adebayo, the film’s producer, revealed that casting Chioma as the lead actress was inspired by divine guidance. Initially unavailable, Chioma later connected deeply with the script, which she believes was part of a greater plan.
