President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a new annexe office for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system.
The project, located in Abuja, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and credibility of the nation’s democratic processes.
During the ceremony, Tinubu emphasised the importance of a robust electoral system in sustaining democracy and ensuring public trust. He noted that the new facility would provide INEC with the necessary infrastructure to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections.
The president also pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at enhancing voter education, integrating technology, and improving logistical operations during elections.
The INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, expressed gratitude for the project, describing it as a significant step toward addressing the commission’s operational challenges. He assured Nigerians that the facility would be utilised to improve the delivery of credible elections across the country.
The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the federal government and the FCT administration in delivering the project.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to providing adequate infrastructure for critical institutions like INEC.
The event was attended by top government officials, electoral stakeholders, and members of the public. The new annexe is expected to enhance INEC’s capacity in voter registration, data management, and election planning, further solidifying Nigeria’s democratic framework.
