Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has stated that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the National Assembly are not hesitant to approve budget proposals submitted by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Kalu emphasised that the legislative body is committed to supporting initiatives that drive development in the nation’s capital, provided they align with due process and fiscal responsibility.
Speaking in Abuja, Benjamin Kalu acknowledged Wike’s proactive approach to infrastructure and urban development in the FCT.
He noted that the minister’s budget proposals have been met with openness, as they aim to address critical needs such as road construction, public transportation, and improved utilities.
However, Benjamin Kalu clarified that the National Assembly would continue to scrutinise all submissions to ensure transparency and efficient allocation of resources.
The deputy speaker also dismissed insinuations that the legislature was reluctant to pass Wike’s budgets, stating that such claims were unfounded.
He explained that the approval process involves a thorough evaluation to guarantee that projects are viable, properly costed, and beneficial to residents.
Kalu assured that once these criteria are met, the National Assembly would expedite necessary approvals.
Kalu further called for collaboration between the executive and legislative arms to fast-track development in the FCT.
Benjamin Kalu expressed confidence that with proper oversight and cooperation, Abuja would witness significant transformation under Wike’s leadership.
The deputy speaker’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions on the 2025 budget, with stakeholders anticipating major infrastructural advancements in the capital city.
