Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has expressed disappointment in music star Olamide for failing to acknowledge or reach out to him after using his name in a song.
In a recent interview, Yemi revealed that Olamide was the first artist to sing with his name, which brought him immense joy and pride. The actor noted that his name has been a blessing, highlighting that other stars like Davido have also referenced him in their music.
Olamide was the first to sing with my name. I was very happy when I heard the song, and I thanked God. God blessed my name, so people used it to sing. Davido also sang with my name; many people used it,” Yemi stated.
However, his happiness turned sour when Olamide failed to acknowledge him or respond to his attempts to connect. Yemi recalled how Fuji musician Pasuma once inquired if he had been compensated for the use of his name. Upon learning that no contact had been made, Pasuma facilitated a call to Olamide, who apologized and collected Yemi’s number.
Unfortunately, things didn’t progress as expected. “I called Olamide for more than six months, but he never picked up my calls. I sent him messages, but he never read or replied, so I let him be,” Yemi lamented.
This isn’t the first time Yemi My Lover has called out prominent figures for neglect. In mid-2023, he publicly criticized gospel singer Tope Alabi, claiming she ignored him after finding stardom, despite being his apprentice in the 1990s. Days later, he retracted his statements, explaining that his comments stemmed from love and not resentment.
