The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called on young people in Nigeria’s southeast region to actively support the agency’s efforts to eliminate corruption and financial crimes.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede appealed during his address at the 2025 Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Conference held in Enugu State.

Speaking on the conference theme “The Police and The Youth: Bridging The Gap,” Olukoyede emphasised the critical role of youth in building a corruption-free society.

“Without the youth, our future is not assured,” he stated, while assuring them that the anti-graft agency exists to protect rather than persecute them. The EFCC boss stressed the importance of partnership between law enforcement and young citizens to create a better economic environment in the region.

Olukoyede outlined the commission’s determination to transform the southeast by tackling economic crimes, noting that this requires an empowered younger generation with strong moral values.

“We need youths with integrity, knowledge, and a community impact mindset to take over leadership,” he explained. The chairman specifically encouraged intelligence sharing through official channels, including the EFCC’s Eagle Eye mobile application, which allows citizens to report suspicious financial activities.

The EFCC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to working with Southeast communities to create opportunities for honest enterprise while clamping down on fraud. Olukoyede’s appeal comes amid the commission’s intensified anti-corruption campaigns across Nigeria, with particular focus on regions experiencing high rates of internet fraud and other financial crimes. The chairman assured the youths of the agency’s support in helping them realise their legitimate aspirations through lawful means.
