Israel DMW, known for his outspoken views and loyalty to singer Davido, has thrown shade at PDP’s Asue Ighodalo after the Supreme Court ruled against him in the ongoing tussle over the Edo State governorship seat.
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, Nigeria’s Apex court struck out Ighodalo’s petition challenging Monday Okpebholo’s victory, stating that the case lacked merit. The ruling put a firm end to the legal contest that began after the September 2023 elections.
Reacting to the verdict, Israel took to Instagram and posted a photo of Ighodalo receiving anointing from a pastor, adding a stinging caption:
Anointing doesn’t win elections in Nigeria.”
This is not the first time Israel has weighed in on Edo politics. Just weeks ago, he publicly called for Governor Okpebholo’s resignation, claiming the state had not experienced peace since his emergence. He insisted that Edo’s ancestors were angry over what he described as “pure robbery” and urged the governor to hand over to Asue Ighodalo, whom he claimed was the true choice of the people.
Israel’s loyalty to his home state has never been in doubt. Last year, he boldly declared that he would never leave Benin City, proudly stating that it’s where a real Oba resides. He added that even Davido and Senator Daisy Danjuma know of his deep commitment to Edo.
Meanwhile, Davido himself also voiced strong opinions during the last election. The singer had condemned INEC and questioned police activities in the state, explaining that his maternal ties to Edo justified his involvement in the political conversation.
In a follow-up post after the Supreme Court judgment, Israel again took to Instagram to advise Nigerians:
Make sure you’re the ones announced as winners in future elections. Whoever is announced is final. Jet life, sweet life shiit.”
Israel DMW says anointing doesn’t win election, reminding Nigerians that politics is about strategy and numbers—not sentiments or religious rituals.
