Celebrity entrepreneur and media personality Chioma Ikokwu, popularly known as Chioma Good Hair, has responded to a fan urging her to consider marriage, making it clear she’s not subscribing to societal pressure.
On Snapchat, a fan named Rama sent Chioma a message implying it was time she tied the knot. But Chioma didn’t let it slide. She made it clear that marriage, for her, is not a ticking clock but a conscious decision—and not one to be rushed.
“I know you mean well, but I don’t like messages like this, Rama. Don’t put pressure on me, please.
It’s too late, lol. With all the technology in the world, stop it!”
She continued by emphasizing that she’s not single by accident but by choice.
“I’m in my 30s, I’ve got time. We’re not in 1885.
I’m not married right now—not by circumstance. It’s by choice. I won’t settle just because others are walking down the aisle. Some are getting divorced six months later.”
She concluded her message by reminding fans that God’s timing is what truly matters. In a follow-up post, Chioma revealed that had she married before turning 30, it would have been a disaster.
“Tbh, anyone that would’ve married me before 30 would’ve cried because I wasn’t ready. I still wanted to travel, grow my career, and be free.”
Now that she feels emotionally and mentally prepared, she’s open to marriage—but without desperation.
“Am I satisfied now? Yes. Am I ready now? Yes. Am I desperate? Absolutely not.”
Chioma isn’t the only one pushing back against marriage pressure. Funke Akindele recently replied to a fan who urged her to remarry, thanking him sarcastically for volunteering as her “wedding planner.”
Actress Sarah Martins also questioned why some women shame others for not being married, sharing her own experience of being mocked while on a movie set.
Elsie Okpocha, comedian Basketmouth’s ex-wife, has likewise addressed marriage-shamers. She reminded critics that while marriage is beautiful, it’s also hard work, and no one should be bullied into it.
