Da Yohana Margif, the Waziri Mushere and a prominent community leader in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, has raised an urgent alarm over the occupation of seven villages by armed Fulani militants.

The affected communities—Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif—have reportedly been seized by the militants, forcing indigenous residents to flee their ancestral homes.

In a statement released on Friday, Da Margif detailed how the villages, all within the Mushere Chiefdom, came under sustained terrorist attacks over the past three months.

The assaults resulted in numerous deaths and the displacement of thousands, who have since taken refuge in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. He expressed deep concern that the militants have not only taken over the land but have also renamed the villages with Fulani titles and begun erecting permanent structures.

According to the community leader, the invaders have been grazing their cattle freely on farmlands while openly carrying weapons, further intimidating the displaced natives.

He described the dire situation of his people, who are now forced to live on rocky terrain and in makeshift shelters when they should be cultivating their farms. Meanwhile, the occupying Fulani militants continue to settle comfortably in the seized territories.

Da Margif called on both the Plateau State government and federal security agencies to intervene immediately, stressing that the identity and location of the militants are now known. He urged authorities to deploy security forces to reclaim the villages, restore order, and enable displaced residents to return home safely.

The community leader emphasised the need for decisive action to protect the rights of indigenous people of Bokkos LGA to their ancestral lands and livelihoods. He warned that failure to address the situation could lead to further instability and a humanitarian crisis in the region.
