The management of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, has refuted claims of a N500 million accreditation fraud, describing the allegations as baseless and damaging to the institution’s reputation.
In a statement issued by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, Olayinka Iroye, the polytechnic clarified that the reported figure was a proposed budget for an upcoming accreditation exercise involving 61 programs, not the 21 programs earlier misreported by a media outlet.
Iroye explained that the N500 million was a carefully reviewed budget, reduced from an initial N900 million proposal submitted by various departments. The amount covers essential expenses, including over N300 million allocated for modern equipment across key departments such as Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, Food Technology, Mass Communication, Computer Science, and Management Studies.
These investments, he noted, are necessary to meet the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) standards and enhance the institution’s academic and research capabilities.
The remaining funds will cover statutory accreditation fees, logistics, and accommodations for 85 NBTE-appointed resource persons conducting the exercise. Iroye emphasised that the budget was prudently prepared to ensure quality accreditation while maintaining accountability in the use of public resources.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to producing skilled graduates and dismissed the fraud allegations as distractions from its academic mission.
In a separate development, a businessman commended the Olupemen of Upenmen, Oba John Ogunmolasuyi, for fostering unity and development in the community. He praised the monarch’s leadership and urged indigenes at home and abroad to support his vision for progress.
The polytechnic’s management urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and reiterated its dedication to transparency and excellence in technical education.
