The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared an upward revision of the fees for obtaining a Nigerian passport. This new fee structure is scheduled to take effect on the 1st of September 2024.

The announcement was made public in an official statement released on Thursday by A.S. Akinlabi, the spokesman for the Nigeria Immigration Service.

According to the statement, the primary objective behind this fee increment is to guarantee the enhanced quality and integrity of the new Nigerian Standard Passport, which is itself set to be introduced on September 1, 2025.

The reviewed fees apply exclusively to passport applications processed within Nigeria. Under the new pricing, a standard 32-page passport with a five-year validity period will now cost one hundred thousand naira (N100,000).

For those requiring a more extensive document, the 64-page passport with a ten-year validity period will be available for two hundred thousand naira (N200,000).

The Nigeria Immigration Service was careful to note that this change does not affect applications made by Nigerians living abroad.

The fees for the diaspora community will remain unchanged at one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) for the 32-page passport and two hundred and thirty dollars ($230) for the 64-page version.

The service reiterated its dedication to striking a balance between providing high-quality service and ensuring that passport services remain accessible to all Nigerian citizens, both at home and overseas.
