Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has announced he will be taking a short break from his public duties following medical advice.

The former Anambra State governor made the disclosure in a post on his official social media handle on Saturday.

He explained that the decision came after he fell ill while attending an event in Enugu. A doctor subsequently prescribed medication and advised him to take one or two days of rest to recover.

In his statement, Obi expressed his regret for any inconvenience caused by his necessary absence from scheduled engagements, both within Nigeria and internationally, over the weekend.

He humbly pleaded for the public’s understanding as he followed the medical directive.

Prior to his illness, Obi had a busy schedule focused on public service and development. After speaking at a tourism event in Enugu, he travelled to the Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, located in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The hospital is currently being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria. During his visit, Obi made an initial contribution of ten million naira to support the Diocese’s efforts in acquiring and completely revitalizing the healthcare facility.

He commended the church’s ambitious plan to transform the center into a comprehensive health complex that will include a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, emphasizing that healthcare remains one of the most critical and meaningful investments for the nation’s future. Following his visit to the hospital, Obi proceeded to Owerri, Imo State, to attend a dinner held in honor of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
