Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has once again proven her devotion to family as her daughter, Similoluwa, crowned her “the best mum ever” at her 17th birthday party.
The colourful celebration, held on Sunday, September 7th, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, drew several Nollywood stars, including Biola Bayo and Ayo Olaiya. But the highlight of the night was when Similoluwa, who graduated earlier this year, took the stage to give an emotional speech about her mother.
Fighting back tears, she praised Laide for being strong and selfless, noting how she went above and beyond despite the tough economy.
She is like the best person I have ever met. I have seen her do so much because of me. The money she even spent on me. I just came home and told her I wanted to have a big party, and she said she would do it, and the fact that she did it for me is actually so crazy. From the photoshoot, she had 3 to 5 outfits for me, and they were so expensive, and the economy is getting worse and worse. Even though I am not affectionate, I want to tell her, thank you, Mummy. There is no other mother like her. She is the strongest person I have seen in my entire life. I just want to say thank you,” she said.
Last year, during Simi’s 16th birthday, Laide described her as a better version of herself and expressed gratitude for her constant love and support. Beyond birthdays, the actress has often showcased her daughter’s talents — from her movie debut in 2022 to her flawless Yoruba speaking skills alongside veterans like Ayo Mogaji and Femi Branch.
Interestingly, Laide once stirred social media buzz when she revealed that Simi, at just 13, surprised her younger brother with a Benz on his birthday, backing it up by disclosing her daughter’s successful real estate venture, Slimline Properties.
Through the years, Laide Bakare has openly shared how pivotal Simi has been to her journey, even recalling that on her 25th birthday, she prayed to God for a daughter instead of a husband.
