Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, has pledged that the Eziukwu Road market in Aba, which was destroyed by fire on Monday night, will be remodelled and refitted to the standards of a contemporary market.
Governor Otti provided this guarantee during an on-the-spot inspection visit to the market to determine the degree of damage caused by the fire breakout.
Otti, therefore, has asked appropriate government officials to immediately begin working on how to modernise the market.
Governor Otti stated that many of the stores were in disrepair and required remodelling and reconstruction since the integrity of the majority of the shops was questioned.
He said:
“If you look at these shops, you’ll agree with me that a lot of them need some modernization, some renovation. Some of them need to be pulled down and rebuilt. Just like I promised to do in Ngwa road, I also will do same here.
“If you look at these shops, you’ll see that the integrity is questionable. It looks like something that would collapse very soon. As a responsible government, we would not allow it to happen.
“So I want to direct relevant authorities, including the GM, Greater Aba Development Agency, to immediately start work on his own to modernize this market.”
