Champions selected “Napoli” was destroyed by defending champions AC Milan, who handed them just their third Serie A loss of the year.
Lazio is still in second place, 16 points behind Luciano Spalletti’s team, and Milan has moved up to third.
Rafael Leao beat Alex Meret to score Milan’s first goal, and Brahim Diaz added Milan’s second. Alexis Saelemaekers added a fourth through Meret’s legs, and Leao added a strong solo effort.
On April 12 and April 18, these teams will once again face off in the Champions League quarterfinals. Napoli, who have been nearly unbeatable the whole season, have now dropped two of their last four Serie A contests after losing just one of their first 24. To win the first Serie A championship since 1990, they still just need to win five of their final ten league contests.
Since losing 5-1 to Atalanta in 2007–2008, this was their greatest setback.
