Nollywood actress Adesua Etomi is celebrating her birthday today, February 22nd, with a heart full of gratitude as she reflects on a challenging year.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the actress opened up about the trials she faced in 2024, describing it as a year that nearly took the wind out of her sail. Adesua revealed that she endured months of illness due to hyperemesis gravidarum—a severe pregnancy condition—while simultaneously dealing with her husband Banky W’s battle with a cancerous tumor.
Adesua recounted how she was hospitalized during her pregnancy and later underwent an emergency C-section when complications arose. The experience, she said, led to a difficult healing process that tested her faith and strength.
Despite the immense challenges, the mother of two expressed deep gratitude to God for seeing her through. She thanked the medical teams in Lagos, Nigeria, and Washington, DC, who cared for her during her illness.
“2024 really tried to take the wind out of my sail, so I am so grateful to be here celebrating my life and God’s faithfulness.
From being ill for months with hyperemesis to being admitted to the hospital, finding out the love of my life needed surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, to undergoing an emergency C-section—it was a lot.”
Adesua also extended appreciation to her “incredible” husband, Banky W, for his unwavering support, and to friends and loved ones who showed her grace and love throughout the difficult year.
Reflecting on her journey, Adesua shared that the challenges she faced stretched her and revealed strengths she didn’t know she possessed. With renewed determination, she declared that she’s ready to take on life’s opportunities and blessings with vigor.
“God has used this season to stretch me and show me that I am capable of much more than I ever realized. Now? NOW, I am coming for everything that’s mine. Nothing and nobody can stop me.”
Adding joy to her special day, Adesua revealed that her close friend, actress Jemima Osunde, surprised her with a thoughtful birthday gesture, calling it the “best gift ever.”
