Nollywood star Adunni Ade is celebrating a major legal win after a court awarded her N20 million in damages in her defamation case against an online blog.
The lawsuit stemmed from a false publication alleging that the actress was among those romantically involved with Senator Dino Melaye. Adunni had taken legal action against the blog, Polace Media Limited (NaijaNews.com), insisting that the story was misleading and damaging to her reputation.
In her petition, Adunni argued that the report violated her constitutional right to privacy as guaranteed under Section 37 of the Nigerian Constitution and the Nigeria Delta Protection Act, 2023.
After months of legal proceedings, the court ruled in her favor, awarding her N20 million in damages.
Taking to Instagram to share the news, Adunni expressed gratitude to her legal team, led by Olumide Babalola LP, for their relentless work. She emphasized that the judgment underscores the importance of privacy and truth in public reporting.
This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters — and so does integrity. Justice delayed isn’t justice denied,” she wrote.
The mother of two also revealed that she has now won two separate legal cases, with a few others still pending. She urged those avoiding court summons to “stand still and be served,” noting that accountability cannot be dodged forever.
Adunni didn’t shy away from addressing those spreading falsehoods about her, including a fellow actress she accused of feeding lies to the blogger. “Envy and bitterness live and breathe within you,” she said pointedly, warning that the truth will soon be revealed.
Earlier this year, Adunni had vowed to fight back against those exploiting her name for clout. This recent victory, she noted, marks a turning point in her quest to defend her integrity and reputation in an industry often clouded by rumours.
