Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organization, has named lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi as its National Organising Secretary.
His appointment was accepted by Afenifere’s general meeting, which was held on Tuesday at Pa Adebanjo’s home in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.
Recall that Aare Babalola sued the human rights attorney for allegedly criticizing him in his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
Farotimi was charged before an Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti, where he was given N30 million bail.
Dele Farotimi was appointed just 24 hours after Afe Babalola agreed to dismiss the defamation action launched against him.
His appointment was announced in a statement published following the meeting and signed by Oba Oladipo Olaitan, the Deputy Leader, and Justice Faloye, the National Publicity Secretary.
The statement said:
“The General Meeting considered and approved the appointment of Barrister Dele Farotimi as the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere.”
Delegates from the six South West states, Kogi, and Kwara states attended the conference, which was presided over by the Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and included former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Akerele.
Other attendees were Secretary-General Chief Sola Ebiseni, Chief Akin Osuntokun, Professor Akin Onigbinde, Elder Tola Mobolurin, Dr. Gbola Adetuji, and Olorogun Pop Ayo-Banjo.
