The African Union (AU), has become a permanent member of the G-20, often known as the Group of 20.
Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, made the statement while kicking off a summit of world leaders on Saturday in New Delhi, the country’s capital and home to the richest countries on earth.
The African Union head, Azali Assoumani, was asked to join the committee as a permanent member by the prime minister of India during his opening remarks.
“Today, as the president of G-20, India calls upon the world to come together to transform the global trust deficit into one of trust and reliance.
“This is the time for all of us to move together. Be it the divide between North and South, the distance between the East and West, management of food and fuel, terrorism, cyber security, health, energy or water security, we must find a solid solution to this for future generations,” Modi stated this in his opening statement.
19 nations, including the European Union, were official members of the G-20 before the approval of the African Union as a member joining the G-20 meeting.
The Group of 20 strives to address important problems affecting the world economy, such as international financial stability, reducing global warming, and sustainable development.
