Ese Brume, Nigeria’s long jump superstar, won gold in the women’s long jump at the African Games in Accra on Thursday.
Brume cleared 6.92 metres on her first try to win her second consecutive African Games gold medal.
Recall that she also won gold at the previous edition in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019.
Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor won bronze in the event on Thursday, jumping 6.62 metres in her international debut, while Burkina Faso’s Koala Jasmine took silver.
In other sports on Thursday, Nigeria dominated the discus final, with Obiageri Amaechi and Chioma Onyekwere taking gold and silver, respectively.
Onyekwere, the incumbent champion and African record holder, finished second with a throw of 58.03 metres, while Cameroon’s Nora Monie claimed bronze.
Jemi Francis-Peterson won the silver medal in the women’s heptathlon, with 5268 points across seven events. She finished behind Ahouanwanou Odile of the Benin Republic.
Team Nigeria is still second in the medal table, trailing behind Egypt.
The Games, which started on March 8, will conclude on Saturday in Accra.
