Nigeria midfielder, Alex Iwobi, remains resilient in the face of online backlash following his performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite cyberbullying and calls to quit international football, Iwobi maintains his focus on the game.
After Nigeria’s second-place finish, with a defeat to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Iwobi faced severe criticism online, leading him to delete all his Instagram posts. Reports even suggested he might retire from international duty. However, the 27-year-old midfielder shrugs off the negativity.
In a recent statement on his podcast, Project 17, Iwobi expressed his indifference, stating, “It is what it is, it is not the first time…that is football. I would rather be off social media, I don’t want to see that and I don’t care.”
Currently, Iwobi is in Marrakech, Morocco, with Nigeria’s squad for friendlies against Ghana and Mali, focusing solely on his career and performance on the pitch.
Despite the criticisms, Iwobi’s determination remains unshaken as he continues to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
