Controversy surrounds Meghan Markle as she faces accusations of orchestrating fake interviews for her now-axed Spotify podcast, Archetypes. According to multiple sources, some episodes featured interviews conducted by other staff members, with Meghan’s questions later edited into the audio track.
The claims emerged shortly after news broke that Meghan and Prince Harry’s lucrative $20 million deal with Spotify had come to an end by mutual agreement. Podcast-focused outlet Podnews reported the allegations, citing anonymous sources who revealed that certain interviews on the show were conducted by staffers, with Meghan’s questions spliced in afterward. However, no specific episodes were highlighted as examples.
During its one-season run, Meghan’s podcast featured notable guests such as Mariah Carey, Serena Williams, and Mindy Kaling. Yet, this isn’t the first time doubts have been raised about Meghan’s direct involvement in the interview process. Last year, journalist Allison Yarrow, appeared on an episode titled “To ‘B’ or not to ‘B’?.” Revealed that she didn’t actually speak with Meghan herself. But rather with an audio producer named Farrah Safari from Meghan’s production company.
Allison shared her experience on social media, posting a picture in front of Gimlet. An audio production company, and thanking Farrah for being an “excellent interviewer.” This revelation raised questions about the extent of Meghan’s participation in the podcast and her direct engagement with guests.
Following reports of discussions about renewing Meghan’s female-focused podcast, Spotify ultimately decided to cancel the show. The reasons behind this decision remain unclear, but it is speculated that stalled negotiations played a role.
