The Federal Government’s school feeding initiative at Saint James Primary School B, People, Osogbo has restarted.

The course was previously halted in December 2023 due to allegations of poisoning of several students at the institution.

Recalls that late last year, around 18 students from Saint James Primary School B in Owoope were hospitalised after eating a lunchtime meal of rice, egg, and veggies.

The state government then intervened and halted the school’s feeding programmes when stakeholders sought a comprehensive examination of the situation.

The state administration launched an investigation into the occurrence and submitted the affected students to a test at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

Dipo Eluwole, the Commissioner for Education, later confirmed that all of the students were properly certified, with the exception of one who was found to be malnourished.

In addition, a Federal Government delegation led by Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, visited Osun State.

According to her:

“The visit was a fact-finding one to get abreast with updates on the purported food poisoning on December 12 under the state government’s Home Grown School Feeding programme.

“The FG will be establishing a monitoring and evaluation unit to ensure continued commitment to the safety and success of school feeding programmes across the country.

“In the coming days, our office would ensure government policies are strictly adhered to across the federation to standardise school feeding programs in Nigeria, among other sweeping reforms.”
