The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Adam Imam Yusuf, a Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State, over his alleged involvement in the diversion of over N3 billion. Yusuf, who had been on the run, was apprehended at his residence in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and is now set to face prosecution.
ICPC investigations revealed that Yusuf, along with former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd.) and former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum (rtd.), was allegedly involved in orchestrating the fraudulent scheme.
The scheme reportedly involved the diversion of public funds using 92 fictitious companies, none of which were registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The investigation traced the misappropriated funds to a number of companies, including Lahab Integrated and Gate Coast Properties. These companies were found to be linked to the acquisition of over 18 properties, including filling stations. As part of the ongoing legal proceedings, four of these properties have already been forfeited to the government.
The ICPC has pledged to continue its efforts to track down other suspects implicated in the fraud, many of whom remain at large. The commission is also committed to ensuring that those involved in the financial mismanagement face appropriate legal consequences.
This arrest and investigation signal the ICPC’s ongoing commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability in government institutions.
