Angel Smith, former Big Brother Naija housemate, has responded to widespread reactions following a viral video of her and British-Nigerian rapper, Darkoo. In the video, the duo shared an intimate moment, sparking speculations about Angel’s sexuality.
The reality star has now addressed the rumours, emphasizing her right to live her life unapologetically.
Earlier,Angel had shared a video featuring herself and Darkoo, whose real name is Oluwafisayo Isa. The clip captured them in a close embrace, igniting conversations on social media. Many questioned Angel’s sexuality, labeling her as a lesbian.
Taking to her Snapchat, Angel dismissed the comments, stating that being called a lesbian is neither an insult nor a “gag.” She expressed concern over misplaced societal priorities, highlighting the irony of criticizing her personal choices while other pressing issues, such as pedophilia, go unaddressed.
Angel further emphasized that she is an adult with the autonomy to make her own decisions, urging Nigerians to accept diverse perspectives. In her words:
You people did not come upon some secret thing. I posted it myself, and I let my friends post it because guess what? This is my life, and I can do whatever I like.”
The reality star reminded critics of life’s impermanence, asserting that opinions about her choices hold little significance in the grand scheme of things.
This isn’t the first time conversations around LGBTQ+ themes have sparked debates in Nigeria. In recent years, individuals such as Uju Anya, a Nigerian professor in the U.S., and Pastor Jimmy, a former RCCG fellowship leader, have made headlines for their same-sex unions. These stories, much like Angel’s, continue to challenge societal norms and provoke discussion.
