With his 12-round victory over American boxer Jermaine Franklin on Saturday night at the O2 Arena, British boxer Anthony Joshua, who was born in Nigeria, is now back on the winning track. In 13 fights, Joshua had never fought for a non-world title.
Joshua was anxious to restart his career before his bout on Saturday because he had just lost two straight fights to Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine. Although Anthony Joshua was aiming for a knockout victory against Franklin, the three judges who decided the fight plainly favoured Joshua, therefore he had to settle with a unanimous decision.
Joshua demonstrated his physical prowess and athletic prowess by winning with scores of 118-111, 117-111, and 117-111. The two-time world champion had a flawless record at the O2 Arena up to this point, with seven wins and seven knockouts, but he was unable to maintain his knockout streak there.
Franklin currently has 21 victories and two defeats from 23 fights, compared to Joshua’s 25 wins and 3 losses from 27 matches.
There have been rumours that Anthony Joshua may target Tyson Fury or former UFC fighter Francis Nganou for his next match.
