The Nigerian Army’s 1 Brigade troops have arrested Bako Wurgi, also known as Baka NaGarba, a prominent bandit commander and arms dealer.
The assassination of Isa Mohammad Bawa, the Emir of Gobir, in Sokoto State is thought to have been orchestrated by Wurgi.
The operation that resulted in the Wurgi’s capture was carried out on Saturday, according to Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency specialist from the Lake Chad Basin, who posted the post on his X account on Sunday.
The security expert claims that Wurgi’s arrest came after information revealed that he was being treated for wounds he had received in a fight with a rival gang at a hospital in Shinkafi town, Zamfara State.
Makama said that intelligence sources told him that Wurgi was captured by troops after they found out he had been taken to the hospital with several wounds and gunshot wounds.
According to the sources, two accomplices escaped during the operation, while troops detained a third person who helped move the Wurgi in a bike.
After talks for his release broke down, the late Emir of Gobir was kidnapped on July 9, 2024, in Sabon Birnin Local Government Area, Sokoto State, and killed on August 22.
