Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government over unfulfilled demands.
The ultimatum is slated to begin on October 7th and end on October 25th, 2024, when the union may opt to strike.
Shammah Kpanja, President of ASUP, issued the ultimatum on Thursday during the Union’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
He stated that these ongoing demands compelled the 111th NEC session, during which members convened to examine the present status of interactions with proprietors of public polytechnics, schools of technology, and mono-technics around the nation.
Kpanja outlined some of the union’s issues, which include claimed impunity and disregard for obvious requirements of the Federal Polytechnics Act, several edicts creating state-owned institutions, and other instruments of governance in the sector.
He stated that this intervention has an impact on the nomination of main executives in both federal and state-owned polytechnics, as well as other aspects of polytechnic governance.
He also stated that they were deeply concerned about the non-review of the disputed and halted document titled “Schemes of Service for Polytechnics” and the failure to release the conditions of service.
