Popular Nigerian actor and comedian Ayodeji Richard Makun, widely known as AY Comedian, has responded to an AI-generated video falsely portraying him and May Edochie in a romantic scenario.
The video, which shows the duo allegedly kissing during their flight to the UK for the premiere of AY’s movie The Waiter, has sparked widespread debate online.
Photos shared by AY and May documenting their UK trip for the movie’s promotional activities were manipulated to create the misleading footage. Reacting to the viral clip, AY took to Instagram to condemn the creators’ actions, calling for responsible use of technology to promote positivity rather than harm.
In his post, AY highlighted how negative content fosters division and cited past instances, including allegations against Alex Unusual, as examples of how false narratives can damage reputations. He called on Nigerians to embrace creativity for good, saying:
“Instead of using your creativity to undermine others, let’s uplift one another. Together, we can build a brighter future for our nation.”
The post drew reactions from fans and celebrities alike, including Rita Dominic, Yomi Casual, and Juliet Ibrahim, who noted inconsistencies in the fabricated video, such as mismatched facial details and extra fingers.
AY’s statement follows May Edochie’s estranged husband, Yul Edochie, previously addressing online trolls for meddling in others’ private lives.
