Yoruba Nollywood actor Baba Ariyo has received help from well-meaning Nigerians after Kunle Afod raised alarm about his living condition. Afod, who is known for checking on ageing Nollywood stars, shared a troubling video showing the state of the veteran’s home. He revealed that visiting Baba Ariyo left him genuinely shaken.
In the clip, Baba Ariyo explained that he has lived as a tenant for 40 years, a revelation that drew sympathy from viewers who quickly rallied around him.
Kunle later returned with positive news, announcing that fans had contributed over ₦600,000 to support the actor. On his YouTube page, Afod posted the emotional moment he handed the money to Baba Ariyo, who broke down in tears as he received the gift.
This is not the first time Kunle Afod is stepping in for industry veterans. Two months ago, he visited Pa Tunbosun Odunsi in Ibadan to console him after the loss of his wife, a touching moment that moved many online.
Over the years, Afod has built a reputation for reaching out to Nollywood elders. Last year, he visited Charles Olumo before his passing and was pleasantly surprised to find him energetic and cheerful. He prayed for the grace to experience such strength at an old age.
In January, Kunle appealed to colleagues to help bring veteran actress Iya Niwen back on set after visiting her in Ibadan. And just recently, he paid a surprise visit to Lere Paimo, popularly known as Eda Onile Ola. The response from Nigerians was overwhelming, with many donating generously to support the actor.
