Armed bandits in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, attacked the Sabon Sarah community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing two residents and abducting several others, including young girls. The attack also left one person seriously injured.
Local sources reported that the heavily armed assailants stormed the village under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically and causing panic among the residents.
Eyewitnesses said the victims were targeted as the attackers moved from house to house, forcefully taking away women and girls before fleeing into the nearby forests.
Although the Zamfara State Government has yet to release an official statement about the incident, security experts and civil society organisations have raised alarm over the continuous spate of violence in the region. Security analyst Bakatsine posted on social media that the worsening security situation is a reflection of the government’s failure to protect its citizens.
This latest attack comes just days after similar assaults in other parts of the state. In Katuru village, Shinkafi Local Government Area, two women were abducted and two people were injured in a separate raid. In Unguwar Galadunci, Anka Local Government Area, bandits attacked a mosque during evening prayers, kidnapping worshippers and leaving several others wounded.
