Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, has addressed the misconception surrounding him and Grammy-winning singer Wizkid after the singer appeared to throw shade at him.
Earlier in the year, Wizkid sparked controversy by calling out Davido and, in the process, seemingly shading Basketmouth. The “Ojuelegba” singer compared Davido’s ex-lawyer and childhood friend, Bobo, to Basketmouth, suggesting that Bobo was always dressed like the comedian.
In response, Basketmouth humorously responded by sharing a video of himself at billionaire fashion designer Seyi Vodi’s clothing store in Abuja. In the video, the comedian can be seen admiring a matching black shirt and trousers, jokingly questioning if his outfit met Wizkid’s standards.
Following the post, a fan commented that they didn’t believe Wizkid was shading Basketmouth. The fan suggested that Wizkid was mocking Davido’s lawyer for dressing like a comedian, which they deemed unprofessional for a lawyer.
My brother, I don’t think Wizkid was throwing shades at you. I think he was saying a lawyer dressing like you, a comedian, is not professional. In my life, I have never seen a lawyer tinting hair and beards before, entertainers are allowed to rock any look,” the fan explained.
Basketmouth replied to the comment, clarifying that he knew Wizkid wasn’t actually shading him. He further revealed that the two are on good terms, and he was simply “catching cruise” with the public’s misunderstanding of the situation to promote his new movie.
Oh! Of course I know, na. He’s my guy 💯 but I have a movie to promote. So why not catch some cruise with the misconception most people had about it?” Basketmouth responded.
This isn’t the first time Basketmouth has been involved in a conversation sparked by Wizkid’s comments. Earlier in June, when Wizkid took a jab at Davido regarding his marriage to Chioma, Basketmouth noted how Davido’s wedding dominated social media, overshadowing Wizkid’s post.
His light-hearted comment didn’t sit well with some fans, who criticized the comedian. However, Basketmouth defended himself, reposting a fan’s comment which emphasized that he was only joking and that even Wizkid would likely laugh about it.
